1977 Takamine Jumbo (Guild Clone)
I'm a big fan of the 1970's Japanese "Lawsuit Era" guitars: various companies were building what were essentially dead-on replicas of Guilds, Fenders, and Gibsons and putting adaptations of their own logos on 'em. The build quality was as-good or better than their American counterparts, and the cease-and-decist orders soon started rolling in. End of era.
The most famous example of this is the Tokai Love Rocks...a Les Paul clone. They go on eBay these days for easily $1,000, but compared to a '70's LEs Paul it's still a real good deal considering it's actually a better axe. Same goes with a lot of these clones...a much sweeter deal to one extent or another.
So, this one here's a great example: Guild plagiarism right down to the headstock insignia. All materials and build quality totally top-notch. Sounds awesome. Tons of amazing inlay everywhere, solid spruce top, gorgeous Rosewood back and sides. I think (not sure) the real Guild version might have sported an ebony fretboard, whereas this puppy is rosewood.
